As we enter Minffordd
Sation, we pass the railway's main hostel, constructed in the 1990's
to house volunteers. The large area on the left is the old
interchange yard where slate was transshipped onto the main line. It
is now the railway's permanent way depot and the large shed bearing
the lettering Maenofferen Slate Company is now used as a carriage
shed.
We pass over the
bridge across the old Cambrian Railways main line as we enter
Minffordd Station, which is the place to disembark if you wish to
visit Portmeirion.
Minffordd is a
crossing point on the single line and most days trains cross here.
There is also a small water tank to replenish a locomotive's supply
if necessary.
Leaving Minffordd the
train passes Bron-y-Garth hospital on the right, this was originally
built as a Workhouse in the nineteenth century.
